Our mission attracts the most generous and hardworking people into our orbit, each bringing their own rich story to our tapestry.

Dave Crane with his Spark Thomasville protege Nyhema Hicks, owner, of Early Learning Academy.

Today, I am celebrating Thomasville entrepreneur Dave Crane, a treasured member of the Spark Thomasville family.

Can I share his story?

In 1990, when the lights of his corporate office dimmed for the last time due to downsizing, Dave transformed that moment of uncertainty into the fulfillment of a long-held dream: owning a machine shop.

The rhythmic hum of machinery runs deep in Dave's family heritage. His grandfather, father, brother, and uncles were all machinists who took honest pride in well-maintained equipment and the satisfying gleam of perfectly crafted parts. Even his wife's story carries the sweetness of entrepreneurship - she learned to guide a rumbling tractor across her family's fertile fields at just five years old.

When the pages of the Thomasville newspaper revealed a machine shop for sale, Dave recognized his chance to plant deep roots in our community. Though his father's steady hands were no longer there to guide him, Dave took that bold step forward, filling the shop with the familiar sounds and scents that had surrounded his family for generations.

Now, in the bright, collaborative spaces of Spark Thomasville, Dave shares hard-earned wisdom with aspiring entrepreneurs. His friendly presence and helpful insights come from two decades of meeting payroll and weathering business challenges. He particularly values how Spark's curriculum balances encouraging dreams with preparing for the solid reality of hard work ahead.

After 34 years of walking Thomasville's welcoming streets, Dave exemplifies how investing in our neighbors' dreams strengthens the heartbeat of our local economy.

Join me in celebrating volunteers like Dave, whose generous spirit and hardworking example light the way for tomorrow's entrepreneurs.

Warmly,

DeShay Williams
